Matt Langston, one of the founding partners of Landworks Design Group, PA, has been elevated to the prestigious Council of Fellows of the American Society of Landscape Architects. Fellowship is one of the highest honors conveyed by ASLA, recognizing exceptional contributions to the profession over a sustained period of time. Langston has led the profession at every level, including multiple local, statewide, and national positions, effectively developing and defending policies to enhance the status of landscape architects.

Matt works to connect landscape architects with legislators to provide an understanding of the profession and how it works to protect and beautify the environment of North Carolina. Serving as NCASLA state president, his leadership in North Carolina’s Landscape Architecture Practice Act was critical to its success. As a result, Matt became a sought-after adviser in the licensure efforts of other states.

“Matt has led and managed the chapter and profession in North Carolina by defending the very act that protects our right to practice, often at a personal time cost to his own firm,” says Kevin Barnes, PLA, ASLA and NCASLA President.  “He has continued his leadership in the protection of the practice by coordinating and shaping our political identity and helping landscape architects take a seat at the table with our sister professions.”

Matt served as Member-at-Large for Legislative Affairs in the state chapter for many years. He founded and was treasurer of the North Carolina Landscape Architects Political Action Committee. At the national level during his time as an ASLA trustee, Matt served on and chaired the Government Affairs Advisory Committee.

“Matt Langton has been a tireless advocate toward the betterment of the profession,” said Chad D. Danos, PLA, FASLA Director of Landscape Architecture Duplantis Design Group, PC and Past President, ASLA. “His leadership skills and valuable contributions as a member of the ASLA Government Affairs Advisory Committee was the core reason I appointed Matt as Chair of that committee in 2015.”

Matt serves as president of Landworks Design Group, a multidisciplinary design firm, where he manages operations and mentors a new generation of landscape architects.  ASLA elevated the Class of 2020 Fellows during a special Investiture Ceremony in November.
